Hello, all. This forum is great.. I'm still psyching myself up to do a remote start install on an '04 Optra. I went to a wrecking yard this afternoon and found one and did kind of a pre-inspection of wiring, panel removal, etc. Looking for lock, unlock and door trigger wires in the driver's kick panel I found a connector with about 100 wires in it just about every color of the rainbow, and not necessarily corresponding with the wiring diagram I had. Sure looks intimidating but I guess you just have to get past that. I found a great OEM grommet once I moved the coolant overflow tank aside. Just wondering about the parking lights - if I go with the + connection, would it really be so bad to wire the remote start + park light output to the two separate light circuits together? I realize you're not supposed to but most "normal" cars only have one park light circuit to be connected to anyway. Or I could try the - output and for sure just make one connection. Well, if anyone recalls doing an Optra (probably not, they weren't that popular) or Forenza and has some tips I'd appreciate it. Thanks...

Use 2 3 watt diodes bands away from alarm and non band side connected together to alarm (+) light output. Then connect the other 2 ends of diodes one to each of the light circuits.

Well, I took the plunge and started installing the remote start on this Optra today. Took a good bite out of the job but there's a bit more to do. I don't get the chart that said two h/lamp connections. I found a red wire in the dkp that is powering up both side park lights. I had no luck with lock/unlock wires in the dkp so I pulled the left sill/scuff trim off. Must have got lucky because the first wire out of about 25 turned out to be the lock wire. Found unlock beside it. They are negative trigger. I pulled the "B" pillar trim out slightly and connected to the - door trigger wire. I was able to find the ignition wire in the ignition harness but it was brown, not pink as listed. The only two I need now are the starter and accessory (heater). Since the colors didn't seem to be matching I ended up baring the tiniest bit of each wire at the ignition harness and testing for starter and accessory. So far I haven't been able to find them but they gotta be there. I will try again tomorrow. Had to stop for today. Not really pleasant with temps at about 6-7 degrees and I'm working outside. If anyone can recall anything about Optra/Forenza install that might help I'd appreciate it. Thanks...

You want the Blinkers (turn signals) for you vehicle to power the amber lights.
If your remote start has 2 (+) light outputs then wire one to each with diodes.

Optra update - the remote start is done. I ended up finding another harness in the ignition harness area that had the starter and accessory wires. Went fairly seamlessly after that. There is a horn wire in the ignition harness but there is also one in the dkp and I found that more accessible. I got the tach signal from a fuel injector wire instead of an ECM pin, seemed easier. One small snag - I couldn't start the programming with the hood switch although it programmed fine with the PAB on the antenna. When I closed the hood it wasn't flush with the fender (sat higher). So I turned the hood pin down into the assembly and the park lights blinked and it worked like it was supposed to. Just had it adjusted too high up. One last thing is sometimes the daytime running lights (DRL's) don't come on but the car had a drl issue before so I don't think it's related. All in all it works quite well and I'm sure it will be appreciated. Took about 12 hours total. Thanks for the help on here.
