I have two Rockford 12 inch HE subs in 8ohm and i'm running a rockford 400s to it. My problem is when i'm playing a bass cd when it gets down to those low notes it sounds like crap is it the amplifier or the sub. I 'm thinking about going to alpine type r's would that fix it. Also sometimes it goes so low i don't even think the sub plays..I have dynamat in the rear so theirs nothing rattling.

Do you have (2) of the 8ohm HE's, or (2) 4ohm HE's wired into an 8ohm total load?
If you have 2 of the 8ohm model, are you wired in parallel and bridged at the amp?

Could be a couple of things first off what type of enclosure do you have and what is the volume? Also what do you have your low pass X overs set at? And how do you have them wired?
