i just hooked up a kenwood kdc mp522, cerwin 61\2 components, alpine R 6x9s, and an alpine mrv f340. the amp was in the open on the floor right in front of the HU. after about 10, maybe 15 minutes, i went to unhook the amp and it was real hot. i have 10 gauge fosgate wiring for the power and ground.

how hard were you pushing the amp? if it was clipping, it will be hot. plus, an amps normal temp. feels hot to the touch. if it gets too hot, it will go into protection mode, until it cools down.

thanks i think im gonna try putting larger fuses in. a 25 was in the inline on the power and i put in a 30, so i might try 35 or 40. does that sound like a bad idea to any one?

the fuse should be the lowest rating that wont blow under normal use. what does your amp have on it? i would add at the most 5A to it, and that should be your in-line fuse. i have two amps, and both take 40A fuses. but im running a 60A fuse inline. been that way for a year now, and its never blown.

for that one amp, a 25A that was in there is fine.

good rule of thumb to follow is not to fuse at the batt. higher than the fuse(s) on the amp. i usually add the fuse sizes on the amp, and match them to the batt. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO KEEP BUMPING UP FUZE SIZES. VERY POSSIBLE THE NEXT PHONE CALL YOU MAKE WILL BE TO THE FIRE DEPT. how far is the wire wire run, b/c usually the mrvf340 requires a min. of 8 gauge wire. to small a power wire will create a larger resistance than normal, thus a build up of heat. this can, and will cause a voltage drop. meaning, your amp doesn't have the proper voltage input, so the output of the amp will definitly suffer (the side effect of this is distortion). bump up the power AND ground to at least 8 gauge, and properly fuse it. Just some more food for though, if you are ever going to add a sub to the system, run a 4 gauge wire now so you can hook that up easily to a distribution block instead of having to run a new power wire again. peace

amps run warm or even hot to the touch....

if you have a good ground and hot wire (10gauge)and the amp is not

giving you any problems,then dont worry about it ....

crossing wires is,crossing the line....

i have the system totally installed and i think the sound should be alot louder. the volume goes up to 35, but when its turned down to about 13 you can't hear anything. could the 10 gauge be causing this problem?

From my experience alpine amps run hot. It isn't helping any that you are running 10 gauge wire. You should also check your ground and make sure it is mounted to a bare metal surface. You are taking power for the amp at the battery, right?

when i first installed my kenwood head unit, it did the same thing. i had to turn the amp up to about 2v. that solved the problem.
