Hi,

I'm new to all this car audio stuff, and I'm about to buy a new truck and want to put a nice system in it.

I have two 15" 150 Watt, 4 ohm, single voice subs, and need to get an amp for them, but what I'm wondering is, would it be better to get the Rockford Fosgate 301M 300 Watt, or the 301M 900 Watt in case I want to expand later? Being that it's in a small truck (s-10) I'm kinda thinking I won't want more than that. In reality two 15" subs seem a bit like overkill in a small truck like that, but I don't know.
If I get this mono amp, it will just be used for subs, and I'd get another multichannel amp to drive speakers other than subs right?
Right now I just have the subs and need to wait a couple months to do a whole speaker system.

Is there a car audio site for beginners or something??

Thanks in advance,

-Wattage

Oh another thing, can you use an amp for speakers/subs that has a higher RMS per channel than the speaker uses?

Like, if I have 150 Watt Subs and a certain amp has 200 watts RMS per channel, will the amp only draw the 150 it needs or will the amp try to push 200 to it and it will blow?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, I am really new to all this...

your not pushing very many watts so its really not overkill, now if u had a 1100 watt system like mine it would be but anyways, go for the 900 watt... it wont work the amp as hard having more power available

I dont get what the difference is between the 301M amps you are posting. A Rockford Punch 301M amp pushes 300 watts RMS into a single channel at 2 ohms, there is no way it will push 900 watts (unless its at the point right before it blows). If you use an amp which puts out 200 watts RMS to the sub, you will want to be careful with your gain. Don't turn it up too high, as it will send all of its power to the sub.

Wait, aggie you're right, I'm confusing myself hahah.

300w @ 2 ohms is bridged so that's total, so 2 would be like 150 @ 4 ohms, wired innnn what is it, parallel?

Man I'm a goofball haha, I bet you huys are having a laugh at me.

yeah, just wire your 2 subs in parallel to present a 2 ohm load to the amplifier. Assuming you are using the 301M, each sub will get 150 watts RMS, which is perfect for each subs.
