No alarm system. I have a flashing LED but I only want it to flash when the vehicle is off. How can I get 12v power with the key off and cut out when the key is on?

Power goes to constant power and ground will go to the ignition wire.

That won't make it flash thought, that is if you're just hooking up an LED by itself. I would go with an LED scanner of sorts, perhaps from Varad, DEI, etc. auex is right in saying you'd just use the 12volt and the ignition wire for ground.

Use a Bosch SPDT relay and a flashing LED:

85: ignition source

86: body ground

30: 12VDC+

87a: LED

87: (not used)

This way the path to the LED is interrupted when the ignition switch is not in the OFF position. This will draw current when the ignition is off, but only as much as the relay's coil pulls.

Car alarm/Remote start relays will be 12v SPDT's, but what amp ratings are typically used for most extraneous features? (ie LED's, window rollup, rear defrost, front fan, heated seat activation, radar, motion sense).
