i want too install an alarm, i know it has a chip in the key. iam thinking about getting the crimestopper informer 2015fm. do i need anything for it to bypass the key chip thing,?install on a 2000 expedition - Last Post -- posted image.

You need a bypass module for the PATS system. There are keyless bypasses we sell and also key required bypasses as well. The keyless versions are more expensive but you don't have to worry about a spare key in the car being found.

As for a spare key being found.. here's something we do at my shop.

With the customers approval of course, we will cut the key from the head from the key, put it in the dash and return the metal to the customer.. gives him/her a little more piece of mind, knowing that a functioning key is NOT in his car!

You can also cut the top portion of the key ( where the key chain ring is supposed to go around ) and take out just the chip and give the key back to the customer as a spare door key. They really like this because they have a spare key to put anywhere on the truck, but it won't start the truck.
