hey velocity its funny i just had to do a car right now and needed a transponder bypass and i used the wraparound key trick and i think you are right. I used to use the dei piece but i like saving 23 dollars on the piece  and using a 2 dollar relay insted.1999 Ford explorer transponder bypass - Page 2 - Last Post -- posted image. I always read about it but never liked the way it was done but i do lik eto save money and with a little adjustment of a wire it works great.

Not to mention you said that you don't want the unsightly wires from the key cylinder.... well you don't even see it with the cover back on and the wire is such a small gauge, you really have to know that it was there before you can even see it. Otherwise it's unseen and looks clean. One note about this procedure is that if you can take the resistor pellet out of the key head, the better chance you will have of getting the vehcile to start the first time. Otherwise you have to move the wires around the head of the key until you get that sweet spot where the resistor is located.

I think Im going to go with the "wire"and key bypass.  Jeff what is the best way to remove the pellet from the key?  I know that there is a small trap door on the key.  Do you just pry it open and out falls the pellet?  Im sorry if these questions sound stupid but I just want to do it right.  Also do you have to be careful where you mount the pellet?  Thanks for your patients on this matter.  BrianH

Actually, the trap door doesn't open as easy as it sounds1999 Ford explorer transponder bypass - Page 2 - Last Post -- posted image. What I've done in the past is take the top of the key to a scroll saw and cut the top portion of the key off ( be careful that you do not cut the pellet ) and then peel back the black portion of the key top until you can get at the pellet. This will still allow you to have the key portion of the key and some of the top portion as well so you have a spare door key. You can mount the pellet about 2-3 inches away from the key cylinder and use hot glue to keep the wounds of wire from coming loose. Tape up this pellet and it will be solid for quite some time.
