That really makes me mad! The reason I purchased the Viper 5000 was FOR the Responder (FM) as advertised!
On top of this, the "professional" installation has been a nightmare. I was sold a package deal with more sensors than were actually needed OR functional with each other. I specifically asked if there were going to be issues with multiplexing the sensors and was told "NO"! True, sensors can be multiplexed but the CPU only displays 1 type of sensor trigger. I could discern what was going on but this was the wife's car!! Try to explain to her that the trunk symbol could either be the trunk pin OR the rear shock sensor OR the tilt sensor, etc.!
After reading every post here and ALL the info in the Operator's manual and Install manual, I printed out the 3 pages with the settings and checked off the features that I wanted enabled. However even after posting here about the VRS & AED features, there doesn't seem to be a lot of experience with them. After 1 full day of installation and 6 trips back because things would mysteriously "change" after a previous visit. I could never get a clear answer about if there were problems with enabling the AED & the VRS together much less how they functioned. At one point, the warn away chirps and the full alarm siren/horn honk stopped functioning. It would chirp when arming/disarming but no noise from it when triggered. The remote would indicate warns & full alarms but quiet as a mouse at the car. No that's a heck of a car alarm. Break into it and it lets the owner with the remote that somethings happening but be kind to the thief so I don't get sued for his emotional distress when the siren hurt his ears!
I finally went to them with a choice of get it right or rip it out. So... decided by me, was to get rid of the 2nd rear mounted shock sensor (504c), that was tied into the trunk pin input, and only use the on-board, keep the tilt sensor & put it on channel #7 (but the installed changed it from a 507M to a 507T which was HIS decision), remove the glass break sensor (506T) and the radar field sensor (508D) and order an ultrasonic (509U) for channel 4. The battery backup was also kept.
Another 1-1/2 days later ( a different installer, the installation manager, removed the original instal and re-did everything with a new CPU) the outcome was that it appeared to be working to my satisfaction with the agreement that they would order the 509U and install it later & refund some of my purchase price. Low & behold, when the wife got home she said, "Hey, what happened to the dome light supervision?" WHAT, another mysterious feature disappearance! I immediately called them to b_tch them out, AGAIN, and told them that when the 509U comes in I want the dome light supervision functional and that I would go through each & every feature in front of their shop to test.
Crap, the only I had it "professionally my rear-end" installed was for the warranty. I could have fumbled around installing it myself in far less time!!! If i did this kind of work for my customers, I wouldn't have any!
What I have learned from this whole thing is that finding a shop that truly knows what they are doing is the largest task involved in deciding what add-on equipment to have installed. The store that installed it is a big chain audio store and trust me, I will never buy anything from them again.
Thanks for the rant, Steve
