I want to get a pair of 12" subs for my jeep, but i'm not really familiar w/ all the brands and specs and all. I would like mostly sound quality, but i want deep bass as well. Is it necessary to get the whole 20 hz, or are like the rockford fosgate's 28-200hz  subs deep enough? Also, how many watts should my amp be to power these two 12's? Basically i need new ideas on a good sq system(2 12's), that can "bump" if needed.  Any comments would be apreciated, Thanks.

I have 2 12" JL 12w6. They have so many other great brands but it mainly comes down to what you can afford. They have rockford fosgate, kicker, audiobahn, alpine, etc.

Ditto to Sound Pressure.

Sound quality on paper is constant but to the owner it is relative.  Also depends on the installer and how many shortcuts are taken.  Wont do you any good to get the cleanest most powerful amps just to use radio shack patch cords and 24 guage speaker wire.  I know this is extreme but I hope you get the picture.

If youre serious about sound -  Get a reputable installer to help you choose components and take time to do it.  Scrutinize perf specs for all components i.e. dont buy subs for large ported enclosures that work best in small sealed boxes.  Dont buy the amp that is rated at 500w/channel w/ 1% THD at 14.4v.  Your better off with 125w/channel w/ .008 THD at 12v.  The overall build of the amp is worth it in the long run.

Good example:  I ran many Cerwin-Vegas with subpar components in my early days and never had a speaker problem.  I switched to Orion subs with good components and blew one speaker and the other's dust cap slowly disintegrated.

Quality costs.  What can you afford?  Build a sound system that will work for you.  Oh yeah - get a good alarm.

How much are you looking to spend on the setup?

thanks for your help... i'm planning on spending around 500 or so on everything, maybe 200 or so on the subs and 300 on the amp, but maybe a little more on the amp if needed. One more question, is it worth the trouble to get subs that are rated all the way down to 20 hz, or will a good sub like a Rockford Fosgate that only goes down to 28 hz be low and sound good enough to not matter? Thanks again. Later

p.s.- now that you mention it, any good suggestions on some good aftermarket alarm systems...

One suggestion would be a JL 500/1 http://www.jlaudio.com/amps/5001.html and 2 12 inch w3’s the 6 ohm model (12W3-D6)  http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/12w3.html if you wire them in parallel you will get a 1.5 ohm load http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/pdfs/12W3_BDS.pdf  This will be a clean set up and is around what your looking to spend. But I would go to local shops and listen to all your options and get what sounds best to you.
