Sad to say... but I need some help. I haven't done installs in about 8 years or more and alot has changed. I would like to know what is a "Disarm Defeat" wire as oppposed to a "Factory Alarm Disarm". What does it do? Like I said, things have changed since my day. I will be doing an DEI remote start install in a 2001 Ford Escape. Also, can anyone forward me a "Directfax #1079" or tell me what is important in it.

I would be gratefull for some answers.

Matt

The Disarm Defeat wire is used when using an upgrade system to the factory keyless entry. It's an unlock motor wire. So you couldn't just press the unlock switch on the door and disarm the add-on upgrade unit. If installing a regular remoted alarm system, then omit this wire.

Disarm Defeat is in reference to the add-on upgrade unit, not the factory system.

Factory disarm is just that, disarms the factory system, usually a (-) pulse will do and usually a separate wire, but also can arm/disarm with the lock/unlock wires.

disarm defeat is for aftermarket alarms that use factory remote it is the all door positve unlock output or switch output . this is because most factory keyless systems unlock driver door first . so with the disarm defeat the alarm see's  1st pulse unlock then second , so in therory if it only see's all door pulse it wont disarm . so a thief cant break in hit the switch and turn off the alarm.

I also have been out of the install business for a few years. I have been tasked with installing an alarm/rs combo in a freinds 2002 Escape.  Am I wrong or does the ignition use some type of databus?  I took apart the column and there are only 5 thin wires coming out of the key cylinder. Obviously this wont be carrying high current. I was wondering if anybody out there had a wiring diagram or at least tell me whether i can access the wires for ignition or do i need some type of module like for the Jeep cherokee?

Thanks in advance

  • NOTE: This vehicle is equipped with a passive immobilizer that needs to be bypassed for remote start operation only. Use DEI part number 555S to bypass, and also use the BLACK/ pink (+) key sense wire at the steering column to interrupt the blue wire on the 555S so that when the key is inserted to do take over the vehicle does not see two transponders at the same time. Refer to directfax document #1079 for wiring information.
  • *1 This wire is rated at 10 amps only. If installing any system with high current outputs, go to battery for 12v.
  • *2 Lock requires a negative trigger thru a 1,000 ohm resistor. Unlock is a negative trigger. Must use relay on both.
  • *3 This wire rests at ground with the doors closed, and it is an open circuit with the drivers door open. Use a relay to interupt this wire to turn on the dome light.
  • *4 On the ZETEC motor use GREEN/ purple or lt GREEN / WHITE at the coil pack. The Duratec motor has a coil for each cylinder, go to any one and use the wire that is NOT WHITE/ purple.
  • *5 May be in the SRS harness. Use a meter to test to avoid setting any codes or deploying the airbag.
  • *6 The GEM (generic electronic module) is behind the center console on the floor. Pull off the black panel to the right of the gas pedal, there will be carpet covering it. The plugs face the driver side of the vehicle.
