Hearing Problems

I think I can answer that question for you. You see my wife is an Doctor of Audiology (someone who specializes in hearing and disorders of the ear) and she said," that you have the potential to damage your ears at any point where the sound level is above 90 dB without ear protection. If you refer to OSHA standards, it states that at levels at or above 115 dB, a person is only supposed to spend 15 minutes or less in that environment....with ear protection!!!  Please protect your ears...use both plugs and muffs.  And if you can, visit your local audiologist and have custom plugs that can attenuate the sound level without distorting sound quality. "

Now you know how it feels to live with the enemy( just kidding). But my advise to you is to turn it down and enjoy the music, or else you can bump it up all day and night long and by the time you're 40 you'll have a permanent hearing loss, which can lead to deafness.

Pervy is right about the levels above 90 db for a period of time WILL have bad affects on your ears. Just to add to what Pervy stated, high frequencies from the 4 khz - 500 hz range will damage the ear the most ( high notes and vocals ) while the lower frequencies will take longer to induce hearing loss, but the same affects will result in the end... irreversable hearing loss.

Becareful and listen to your ears........ turn it down before it hurts.

Don't do like me!  I've been working in car audio for 24 years now (remember 8 tracks?) and now I'm starting to pay for it with distorted hearing in my right ear when the level is over 95 DB.  It's a pain in the butt because I still like to feel the music but I can't tolerate it like I used to.  Also I've lost some ability to hear highs which means I can't give 100% when testing sound Q.  In your inner ear are hairs that are sensitive to whispers which usually bend like tall grass but if they're exposed to a sudden blast,  they break and the damage is PERMANENT,  meaning that you lose the ability to "fine tune" your system or hear people when they talk behind your back (also a pain).

   Another thing to remember is that you could also get tinnitus, a condition where you "hear" sounds that aren't actually there. Like when Vietnam vets would come home and here machine gun fire in their heads nonstop, you could also "hear" bass - laying in bed, or in the shower, etc. - places without where your system isn't.
