Hi All,

Just installed a CS-324T remote start and IPP.ME in a 2001 Cavalier.  Starter went in without a hitch and actually tries to start the car.  It continues to crank and never turns over completly . The problem after that is, after it does so, it kicks off the Theft detterent system and I have to wait 10 min to try again.  This tells me the IPP.ME is not installed/functioning properly.  Here is how I wired it to the starter and Car.

1) Is the 2001 Cavalier a Passlock 2 or 1? (Right now I have it set to 2)

IPPME Wiring

2) The White wire (Data) is connected to the yellow wire (3 of them - small gage wire - Yellow/Black and white) on the steering column, right below the ignit switch.

3) Black wire (ground) is connected to the black wire next to the yellow wire (part of same harness).

4) Brown wire is connected to starter's WHITE/ Green (Neg Ground output)

This one has me curious. The default opt for the starter is Ground Output while running under remote control + changes ( disarm output to a double pulse).  The other is just Ground output while running under remote without changes.  The Blue/White wire(programmable negative output) on the starter is NOT connected.  Could this be the prob? and if so, WHERE DOES IT GO???

5) The yellow wire is connected to the Pink Ignition wire in Ignition  harness

6) the Purple wire is connected to the Yellow starter wire in Ignition harness

7) Red Wire is connected to 12V+DC

8) The Pink wire is NOT Connected  (2nd ignition output - Dont think Cavalier has 2nd ignition)

9) The Green wire is NOT connected (Key sense out) Should it be, and if so, where does it go?

Iv'e spent about 6 hrs on this one and finally called it quits.  Any help here would be greatly appreciated seeing as how its gettin colder in the morning.  :)

Did you program the IPPME yet ?? You have to start the vehicle & keep it runnning for 10 seconds and stop it.

I stopped messing around with any form of bypass module on all Passlock I and II because they are just not guaranteed.  I only use the single relay method with a trimpot.  You can use a resistor, but you have to make a special trip to the store in the middle of the install that way.  And a trimpot is going to be more accurate because even if you have a cheap DMM at least you will be able to be consistent by dialing in the same resistence as you tested the passlock resistence.

For this method put pin 85 to your ground out when running, Pin 86 to either an ignition or 12v+ wire.  Pin 30 to computer side of yellow wire, Pin 87a to the key side of yellow passlock wire, and Pin 87 to one side of the trimpot and the other side of the trimpot to the black passlock ground wire.  Since you have already cut the yellow wire and tapped the passlock ground wire, you should have it very easy to test the resistence:

reconnect the yellow wire just so you can start the car with the key.  The disconnect it and use a DMM with one lead on the key side of the yellow passlock wire and the other on the passlock ground wire (black) and record reading.  The reverse the leads and dial in the higher of the two resistences to your trimpot and wire it as described above.

The 2001 Cavalier has the Passlock II

I am only suggesting this as a guaranteed alternative which will eliminate the passlock from the trouble shooting altogether.  You may want to seek some help with the IPP-ME if you are not ready to give up on it, but I just thought I would save you some time.

Thanks for the input.

First, Yes.. I let the car run for 10 sec (even longer) to try to get it to program.  I think my problem lies in my wiring.  The 2nd post below leads me to beleive that there are 2 sides to the yellow wires that send the signal for passlock.  I guess is there an "idiot's" way of knowing which side of the wires is right?  These are right below the ignition switch (where key goes in) and are grouped as Yellow/BLACK/ White, then a lil harness then they all go black.

Is any of my above wiring correct in how I have the IPPME connected with the starter?  I wonder if the starter's wires have to be connected as well.

I dont think I'm savy enough to run resistors and do tests.  Even If I did, I wouldnt know what I'm looking at.

I cant beleive I'm this close and only to give up because of a wrong wire hookup.  :)

something similar happened to the shop i work at......check to see that that  the plastic clip on the passlock isnt out of place... meaning if you unplugged it or moved the plastic its on put it back..that little SOB had us thinkin we locked the car up and all it was, was just moving the piece back overipp.me help!!!! - Last Post -- posted image.  as far as the green wire goes youll only need to hook it up if your keysense wire shows a ground when the doors are closed and the key is in the ignition.. hope this helps                rob

I checked your wiring before  & it seems OK to me as long as every wire that you have there was typed in correctly.

Well, Just went outside to check wiring and connections again.  All are correct.  Only thing I have not tried yet is teh key sense wire.  Dont know how to see if it's showing ground (dont have a tester and wouldnt know what to look for anyway.).  Could that be cauing the IPPME not to work?  I guess all I connect it to is a ground?  yes?

If this dont work, I'm thinkin about trying the PLDATA.  It looks easier to install and give the user the LED to show that it is at least doing something.  Any thoughts on the PLDATA instead?

I use the PLDATA when I can because it is quicker and eaisier to install and the LED tells you if it is programmed.  Not one has failed me yet.
