subs cutting out

Hey everyone, im currently driving a 1991 Subaru Liberty sedan and recntly purchased a full type-s alpine system but i am having a few problems with the subs. The system is run by a Alpine CDA-9851 headeck and the 2x Alpine type-s SWS-1222D subs are run off a Alpine MRD-M605 Mono Power Amp. Problem: when the volume is turned up to around 19-20 (head unit goes to 35) the subs cut out for about 5 seconds then continue to play. Ive had this happen a few times with the head unit subwoofr control on 12-13 and the amp gain at about 0.4. Ive checked all the wiring, however one of the subs has a small slit where the rubber has been broken from the cone. What could be causing the subs to cut out and how can i go about fixing it? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

One of two things are happening here: 1: You have the amp overloaded, meaning your final load on the amplifier is too low, causing the protection circuitry to do it's job. B: You have the gain on your amp set too high. Just because you have it set to .4 (I am assuming .4 volts) does not mean it is set right. If you HU happens to be putting out .8 (again, assuming .8 volts, and ONLY as an example), now you are asking the amp to produce TWICE what it is capable of. Read the "Gain" sticky at the top of the page, and set your gains correctly. Or a combination of both of the above... Also, here in this forum, please post ALL of your system issues to ONE thread.
