I am getting ready to install a Crimestopper CS2011 RS remote start in my 2000 Ford Ranger. I have never done this before and am a little nervous now that I am actually getting ready to do it! I've got the wiring diagrams, instruction manuals and some good information from several sources. I have experience in some audio and am pretty good at electrical diagrams and troubleshooting but not a ton of work with auto electronics. Because of the passive security (keys) I also got a transponder bypass (DBPKF)). I have a couple of questions:

Is all the wiring I need to get to in the cab of the truck?
Is it better to run in tack mode or tackless?
Have I bought a decent system?
Am I crazy for doing this (i.e. have I bitten off more than I can chew?)???

Any help, encouragement or advice would be more than welcome. Thanks all.

Most of your wiring is in the cab except for your tach wire and hood pin. GO with the tach mode.

Ford Rangers are pretty easy to install. Yes the system you got is a good one. I have installed alot on Ford Ranger's, Explorers, and Sport Trac's. I have not had to use the tach mode, they all start perfectly with the tachless mode. Plan on 4-8 hrs to install this system. All of the wires you need to get at are under the dash, or in the drivers kick panel. Nice that ford is a snap together trim. Take your time, and solder all connections.

Test every wire before you hook to it, dont assume that the wiring diagram you got is correct.

How do you "test" the connections? Are there ways to tests if I am connecting the right wires as I go?

Use a Digital Volt Meter. If it should have 12V on start, check for it on start, ect.. I usually get to and check all wires before connecting any wires, then check off the wires on your printout. Your install manuall should give you some tips on doing so. If not, here on 12V.com they have a few tips in other sections.

I found and hooked up the steering column harness but I can't find the drivers side kick panel harness. I have the whole front of the dash and door panel tore apart. Obvisously what I thought was the kick panel and where the harness is not where it really is. Can anyone help me find the wiring harness? I am looking for the alarm disarm. If I find it I should be able to find the others. Help!!

The drivers kick panel is below the dash by your left foot when in the vehicle. Somtimes the harness is up a little higher, the harness your looking for comes out of the door, so follow it from the boot into the car.

I've given up. It has taken two days to hook up one harness. Now I am in the market for a good installer. Any advice on that end?

Elizabethtown, Ky. I really wish I could have done it myself. I really don't know how professionals get there hands into the small places to find the wires. There must be some trick they use.
