Since I installed my JVC stereo manually ( hardwire), I can't seem to get the dash lights working, and the power to the remote starter is gone too.  It seems that I'm missing a circuit from behind the HU.

P.S. what does pulling out the dimmer switch do?

Your link is bad. What you should do is unplug the radio's harness and then go search for a blown fuse. When you find it replace it and then check and see if the lights start working by turning them on. If they don't and the fuse blows right away(with the radio unplugged) then there is something other then the radio causing the problem. If they do work then plug the radio back in and turn it on, if nothing happens then you probably just blew the fuse installing the radio, if the fuse blows with the radio in then you tagged an illumination/dimmer wire. Go back through your install testing for power and ground with the parking lights on and off.
