Is there a known problem wiring the anti grind or starter kill function on a remote start in a 95 Camry? I just had one installed in my mom's car, but the tech doesn't want to install the anti grind relay in the BLACK/ white starter wire because he thinks it will set the check engine light. I'm willing to install this part myself if necessary. (Otherwise, she'll grind the teeth off the flywheel for sure!)

I've searched and searched and not found a known problem in this car, but some mention that it can happen in some cars, especially if the starter kill is installed in the wrong place.

thanks, man,

Bob

Tell your installer to carry on with the install.

This is not a known problem......

ive never heard of a toyota needing an anti-grind?
i thought only some nissans needed anti-grind because when the car is remote started and u put the key in and turn it to on, it grinds the starter for some reason (not turning it to start, just turning it to on, it still grinds). I never heard of that with toyota or honda.

It is possible your installer is thinking of the 2000 Celica which required the ignition and accessory wires to be isolated from the switch when remote starting. There were also a few Altimas that required this as well. If I remember correctly the switch rested at ground when in the off position and because of this you need to isolate the wires. This does not apply in the 95 Camry, so as KarTuneMan has already stated...tell your installer to continue the installation.
Installer, IT support, and FFL. I need less hobbies.
