Custom Install Ideas -- Escort ZX2

Hey ya'll, I'm new to the forums here. First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Matt. I'm an installer from north myrtle beach, sc. I've been in the mobile electronics industry for 8 years now. I've built several show winning vehicles in my years as an installer. I'm not MECP certified, but, i've been through several manufacturers trainings. To me, certification is just a slip of paper, you can be certified & still not know what the heck your doing in a vehicle. It's actual experience that matters. That's just my .02 on that though.

I've not done any custom work in Escort ZX2's yet. I'm in the design stage for my wife's car...a 00 zx2. I would like some opinions on these 2 different setups. I don't want to give up much trunk space b/c this is our traveling vehicle. I'm thinking either glassin the spare tirewell for subs or either a 10" sub in each side panel beside the rear seats. I'm going for SPL & SQ.

Jeff, i'd do the subs in the rear deck if there was room. I've done that a few times before in other installs. The rear deck is really small I'd be lucky if I could squeeze an 8" in there. If I was able to do that, I'd have the subs in a 'glass tub ontop of the deck. I think it looks better that way. My plan is either do the sub enclosure in the tire well, and the amp & processor rack under the rear deck where the factory changer is. OR a single 10" possibly a 12" if airspace permits, in each side panel beside the rear seat. I am worried about bass response with a trunk full of luggage so I'm kinda leaning away from the enclosure in the tirewell. I'm not worried about a spare...that's what AAA is for. Has anyone done  the subs in the side panels like that? This is one area of a vehicle where i'm in uncharted territory for me. I remember a black 500 horsepower Honda Accord 2dr in CA&E mag a few years ago that had to 10" type-R's in it in the side panels.

hondasin, you've gotta good idea, but, I don't want to give up any trunk space. My wife & I travel in this car, so between us, our 2 dogs, & all the crap she packs when we go on a trip, i can't afford to lose much trunk space.
