Hey ya'll, I'm new to the forums here. First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Matt. I'm an installer from north myrtle beach, sc. I've been in the mobile electronics industry for 8 years now. I've built several show winning vehicles in my years as an installer. I'm not MECP certified, but, i've been through several manufacturers trainings. To me, certification is just a slip of paper, you can be certified & still not know what the heck your doing in a vehicle. It's actual experience that matters. That's just my .02 on that though.

I've not done any custom work in Escort ZX2's yet. I'm in the design stage for my wife's car...a 00 zx2. I would like some opinions on these 2 different setups. I don't want to give up much trunk space b/c this is our traveling vehicle. I'm thinking either glassin the spare tirewell for subs or either a 10" sub in each side panel beside the rear seats. I'm going for SPL & SQ.

Thanks

Matt

Personally for SQ & SPL I would go for a 12" instead of the 10 ". If your good witht he fiberglass, you can fabricate a new rear deck to house two 12" subs and an amp rack to boot. The EQ can go on the fold down rear seat or in the glovebox & then you can keep the spare tire for safety reasons.

Jeff, i'd do the subs in the rear deck if there was room. I've done that a few times before in other installs. The rear deck is really small I'd be lucky if I could squeeze an 8" in there. If I was able to do that, I'd have the subs in a 'glass tub ontop of the deck. I think it looks better that way. My plan is either do the sub enclosure in the tire well, and the amp & processor rack under the rear deck where the factory changer is. OR a single 10" possibly a 12" if airspace permits, in each side panel beside the rear seat. I am worried about bass response with a trunk full of luggage so I'm kinda leaning away from the enclosure in the tirewell. I'm not worried about a spare...that's what AAA is for. I remember a black 500 horsepower Honda Accord 2dr in CA&E mag a few years ago that had to 10" type-R's in it in the side panels.

thanks.

what about building a fiberglass box holding two 12's and the amp under the back dash facing down or if you really wanted to go crazy maybe angled into the set.  just a thought
I know nothing about anything but I'm a good faker

oh wait i guess rereading what jeff said i kind of said the same thing huh, sorry but i was just thinking having it actually hanging down form the back dash then you could kind of do a wrap around thing making the subs come off the underside of the backdash and off the side walls a bit

I've got three Diamond Audio Technology 12" Mack daddys
in the spare tire well of my 80 Mustang with a 3/4" mdf
and metal grill. It's tight but there all in there own enclouser/ sealed, and they slam. they dont take up much space, and I can put heavy things on the grill without
damaging the subs. and yes thats what AAA is for.
