Hi,

I have installed a OEM remote start in my 2006 Jeep Liberty(Gas) and everything is wired per instructions and triple checked.  The unit is 82208998AG with the DNA module 82208859AB.  When I do the "SKIM/SKREEM" programming I insert the key as instructed, put it 2' away, do the other key, 2' away, press the program button and then the remote start button 2 times, the horn beeps 2 times but the Jeep won't start.

I notice that after I press the remote start button 2 time the instructions say "after 10 seconds a single chime will sound and the theft-security light will stop flashing and stay on solid for 3 seconds, then turn off".  This doesn't happen.  After I remove the second key the  theft-security light goes off and never comes back on.

I have gone through the troubleshooting in the instructions and tested the hood switch(AG3011-98B) with a multi meter and it is open when the hood is closed.  I have taken the switch and tried it in both up and down positions thinking the switch install instructions may be incorrect, same problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jerry

Programming aftermarket transponder bypass modules can be a biznatch.... If all is installed as it should be, I would believe this to be the issue? REALLY hard to say

I'm wondering, what does this type of unit cost? I have had people ask, and I don't know.... I allways go aftermarket.

Are they spendy?

Can you post the instructions for install? Sorry to sound like an idiot..... had a few celibratory adult beverages.....

Hi,

The instructions are at http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82208998.pdf ,  These are exactly the same as those that came with the unit EXCEPT...there was a insert that I have posted here .. http://profile.imageshack.us/user/jfeldman

I am wondering if this might be the issue?

I think these OEMs run about $300, I got this one new for $190.

Thanks for your help

To program any new SENTRY keys you have to insert one key and turn to the ON position & wait for the red LED to turn off. Insert the second key and turn to the ON position and again wait until the red LED turns off and then start flashing ( at this point you will hear a beep from the dash ) you are now in program mode. Now have the chip that you want to program as close to the ignition barrel as possible and cycle the ignition to the ON position until the red LED flashes, goes solid for 1 second and then it will go out.
Maybe you are not close enough when you are programming the first two keys.

I don't think the issue is with the keys.  The 2 keys I am using are original and already programmed to the Jeep.  I have gone through all the programming that is required, The transmitter programming, the tach learn procedure and they all seem to work as described.

I am thinking that there is something telling the system that there is a safety fault, either from the hood switch or the brake switch.  I am suspect of the "Insert" that had me change the way the hood switch is connected.

Thanks

As a follow up, today I checked all the obvious things,

Connections= all correct and good, Fuses = all good, Grounds = all good, checked for voltage on the red jump wire from the 16-way hood switch connector to pin #4 in the 24-way connector = has power.

I also disconnected the 16-way hood switch connector and tried the remote start  with the same following effect;

Each time you press the remote start button(2 times) the horn beeps and the lights flash,  immediately the lights flash twice and the horn beeps twice, but the vehicle does not try to start.

Anyone have any ideas???

When it fails to start, what does the security Sentry LED do in the dash?

Can you get the starter to do a takeover? This starting the vehicle with the key, pushing the start button and then removing the key. If this works, then your problem is probably security related. If not, it could be a number of things including tach, hood pin, or even the transmitter itself.
