hi all,

im having problems with the hazard lights on a Audi A4  2.0 F S I, 2003.

the hazards have life of there own they just come on and flash when ever they want to, there is no set pattern as to when they activate or for how long they flash for.  they have flashed constantly untill the battery goes flat.

the odd thing also is that to turn them off you have to quickley turn the headlights on and off, dont know why but this stops them flashing. on some models of a4 the relay is part of the hazard switch, but on my model it isnt, i have replaced the switch but no improvement at all, ive had 4 audi diagnostic checks and nothing shows up.

any ideas where the relay might be or how i can solve this nightmare,

i cant leave the car unatended for long periods because the battery goes flat and the car wont then start.

thank you.

Not familiar with your vehicle.  Does it maybe have an aftermarket alarm system with a missing siren?   And why not figure out which fuse powers the flashers, and remove it when exiting the vehicle for a while.  This will at least keep you from needing a boost every day.

hi thanks for the quick reply

fuse,  i have searched the car for a fuse to remove, i have 44 fuses and not one stops the hazards,

alarm,  its not an aftermarket alarm thats fitted, the hazards flash at a different speed to the alarm mode.

thanks

This seems to be a very common problem with these cars.  When you said you replaced the switch, did you buy a new switch or use a used one.   The relay assembly is built into the switch assembly.  What happens if you unplug the switch?

hi

the switch on my model does not support the relay this i can assure you,

the replacement switch was brand new from an audi main dealer,  if i unplug the switch from the wiring loom the hazards still flash but i cant swith them off.

my line of thinking is the ecu unit, this seams to be what controls the hazards and lights and would explain why i cant find any fuses or relays that operate the hazards.

thanks again,  terry

Just wait for them to come on and try to track down the sound of clicking from where the relay might be. Once in the area you can usually feel which relay clicks.
