Ok I have an Infinity Reference 611a  Class D amplifier.  I blew 2 Pioneeer subs because of waaaayyy overpowering them and now I want to go high end.  I want to get the 10" Alpine Type-Rs.  But I dont know whether to get the 4-Ohm or 2-Ohm version.  Their both dual voice coils.  They say they can take 500 RMS watts, and my amp puts out 657RMS x 1 @ 2Ohms.  It also does 456RMS x 1 @4Ohms.  Its maxx 761 watts @ 2Ohms.  Now on the speaker hook up side, it has 2 sets of terminals (as in +, -  and another +,-) .  Is it putting out 657RMS at 2Ohms for each set?  Or 329RMS per terminal?  In that case, Ill need to pick a new set of subs.  And a question about wiring Dual Voice Coils.  If I turn the one speaker wire that goes into the terminal ON THE box into 2 Wires per charge inside, am I going to lower my wattage at all?  Or will I lower my resistance?  Or will I raise the resistance?

Im new here, but Ive been lurking for a while and enjoy all the info.  Thanks in Advance.

Heres the 4-Ohm speaker specs, the 2Ohm is identical except for the impedence rating.

ONE of these will completely demolish any of the options you listed, while sounding WAY better, for ONLY $165!!!

I'm sure Steven Kephart would agree...

BTW, I'm suggesting these badboys to everyone now! You just can't beat 'em!

The amp produces ~650w at 2 ohms - the two pairs of terminals are simply to make it easier to run more than one pair of speaker wires.  The terminals are parallel to each other so if you connect a 4 ohm load in each side the net load on the amp is 2 ohms.

You'd want a pair of dvc 2's since they can be wired for 2 ohms and see 300w+ each.

You dont know how much that picture helped.  Haha.  Thank you so much.  So wired in that exact form, will each sub see 300RMS.  Or 657RMS?

Well I went ahead and bought the Alpines, mostly because of space contraints.  Will my amp be sufficient?  They take 500RMS.  Or will I need to daisy-chain another amp?

Keep this in mind:  the speakers will provide sound with just one watt.  You don't have to max out a speaker's continuous power rating for them to work well.  And yes, amplifier output is divided equally into number of speakers attached (given that they all are of equal impedance).

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
