Hello. I learned a long time ago to ask the experts here before I go shopping.

I am wanting a basic remote start for my wife's 2002 Saturn SL2.
Automatic, manual door locks, manual windows, no security, etc.
Car is parked infront of our apt so range is not much of an issue.
Just need something to start the car on cold mornings / hot days.
Being able to start the rear defroster would be nice, but not required.
Basically looking for a stable safe unit without a lot of bells and whistles.

Anyone have suggestions?

There are many remote starts that will do what you want - are you going to install it or will a local shop do it?

I would suggest either a Scytek Astra100RS or a DesignTech 24921 - depending on how much you care about having a warranty and tech support.

Astra 100RS is a nice little unit - 2 one-button remotes and all the outputs you'll need for your car.  Widely available on eBay and elsewhere on the net but you won't get tech support or warranty outside of an authorized dealer.

The DesignTech piece will cost more, but they are available from local stores and possibly on the net as well, and it's sold as DIY, so you can get tech support and a warranty from the manufacturer.

Neither one is particularly hard to install and both can give you that defogger output if desired.

You'll also need a bypass for the Passlock - a 555L or PLJX will do.
