I am new to this web site and I want to ask a question. I need to install some auxiliary reverse lights on the backrack on my pickup which is a 99 Ford F-350 . I need them to come on when I switch into reverse and I also what to be able to turn them on from a switch. Someone told me I need a relay and a special switch. If someone could give me a list of materials and a diagram that would be great

I justed asked same question in the relay's forum.

Is your F350 a stick or auto? I'm trying to do the same thing with my 2002 Cummins Dodge (6spd manual).

Anyway, if you find something out let me know.

I tapped into the 7 way trailer plug, mine has a reverse light port for the trailer, that I used for the signal wire for a relay, there is a constant 12 volt there also that you will need. good luck!

From the few trailers I've looked at closely, there isn't a relay between the plug to the truck and the lights. Is there a reason you would need a relay when hooking up extra reverse lights on the truck?

2003 Ford F-150, soon to have the stereo on and the keys in the pocket.

auxiliary reverse lights -- posted image.

You can do it with a relay and a switch. Depending on how much current your reverse lights use and how big of a switch you have you may need to replace the switch with a 2nd relay.
