Here the deal. My stereo head unit does not have a remote turn on wire for my amps mounted in the trunk of my 96 Mustang. I thought I'd be able to use the antenna wire to trigger a relay for more amperage but the antenna wire is only hot in radio mode, not cd or anything else. SO is it possible to run the ground thru the 86 & 85 coil connections to trigger connections 30 & 87a to go hot when the head unit is turned on? If not does anybody have any ideas?

you can use the red ignition wire on the back of the stereo as a remote turn on for your amps.

I have the ignition wire setup to go hot when the vehicle is turned on or the key is acc. mode. If I hook the remote to this the amps will be on all the time. I only want the to come on when the head unit is on. They put to much of a constant drain on the battery other wise.

Only the strong survive.

It does not put a drain on your battery, When yout car is running your alternator is supplying the power, not your battery. Hooking it up the way you have it is more than fine. Many installers do it this way when there is no Remote wire coming from the Head Unit. But if you are dead set on having it turn on and off with your radio instead, that might be a good enough excuse to get a new "cooler" radio! If your anything like me, I could never stay satisfied with my audio setup :o)
