try this first, the older astro's programmed a little different if I remember correctly, put dip 8 up, then press the transmitter button and see if it responds. if it does put the switch down and press the brake pedal.

If you would just read back ot what I posted you would get a smart sequence to follow.

this suggestion above is not correct.... it wil get you nothing. If the transmitters will not program you need to examine the receiver and its cable.

Started looking at that harness from alarm module since it is all bunched together and found looks like I need to repair several connections before I continue. Explains maybe why I didn't see any audible visual signals becuase half the harness was corroded. Maybe I can get some life back into it at some point but I understand what you saying in that internal relays should or need to react first before I can expect anything but I'm almost wondering if tier might be a voltage drop that is causing problem since when it was running, I noticed  the tach signal at the diagnostic LED was erratic like it was a bad ground. I'm not going any further until I repair all the connections near the controllers then see what happens. Probably I will get the dash LED working too! More to follow.

Make sure the hood pin works.

Make sure the brake wire is connected.

And most importantly.... the receiver on the glass and it's cable. Just do a visual making sure it looks ok

There was really no need to disassemble the unit itself. Theres nothing in there you can fix, I promise you that.

I tested the receiver harness already that is 100% ok, since I tested voltage input and ground input, signal lead tests no resistance back to controller so failing that either the remote is in fact failed or the reciever has quit although I didn't see anything unusual when I opened it up and I didn't touch any if the components including IC chip. There is possiblity of short circuit damage though from the previous backyard mechanic. I actually do have my license and with some effort I might even be able to repair the reciever if I had to but it would only be like a grudge match or something.......hehehehe.

The dealer finally agreed to let me test a remote to see if that is the problem rather then just hit me an extra $50.00 to hookup diagnostic tester since they now believe I somewhat know what I'm talking about.
