I have a feeling that this "whine" you speak of is not the speaker or stereo unit at all. Try sound deadening the doors with dynamat and see if this doesn't help block out whatever engine noise you seem to be experiencing. You may even have to go as far as deadening the firewall... I have worked with a bunch of older vehicles that have all sorts of strange sounds coming from the engine. Dynamat extreme will fix it.

so you actually had the speaker out of the door and playing, and this sound was coming from the actual speaker itself when you put your ear to it?

I have read that Pioneer radio head units are notorious for engine noise from the rca output ground not being good. There have been posts saying to strip some of the shield of rca cable and attach a wire by soldering to the radio ground wire or solder to the plug on the back.
The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.
Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya

Does this whine get louder with engine RPM increase?

Why is your amplifier on your rear stage?

Because it will stop the door skin/panel from resonating and interfering with the sound coming from the speaker.

A layer of Dynamat Extreme on the outer-door skin is one of the most impressive mods one can make to a car audio system.

ok to everyones questions...WILDK yes it was coming from the actual speaker... TECHMAN93 i have asked a shop about that and they said only if it happens in both speakers not just 1....SEDATE i have a 4 channel amp running 2 component speakers in the back and 2 tweeters in the front (had to amplify the best 4 speakers i had outta 6) also SEDATE, you mean put Dmat right behind the door panel and in front of the firewall of the door?  or in the hollow part of the door between the metals?

I would change the wiring so the amp powers the front speakers...I'd rather listen to music in front of me rather than behind.

Okay then this is a classic example of alternator whine - Dynamat isn't going to solve this problem.

I'm - uhh - tired so I'll post some solutions in the morning.

In the meantime, try searching for "alternator whine" and see what ppl recommend.

And get that amp up front.  Jeeze man, amping rear speakers like that!
