I am installing a remote start on a 1997 Buick LeSabre.  I was told that there is not a bypass kit needed for this car but the key has a chip in it.  Do I need a bypass kit or do I need to use a resistor to bypass and how do I bypass with the resistor.  Thank you for your help in advance.

eric and dtk1, I hope you don't mind my hijacking this thread but I'm having starting problems with my 97 Riviera.
Your diagram shows pins 85 and 86 wired thru a remote source but I'm wondering if this couldn't work by taking constant 12v+ and ign return directly from the switch on the column and start by turning the key?   I am not in favor of having an extra fob or push button to start the engine. I will appreciate any input you can provide.

eric:
The relay and resistor is all you need for that vehicle with VATS.

I think you need to know what is causing the starting issue either it is mechanical or electrical. You should diagnose what the real problem is. The anti theft or something in the ignition system could be faulty or the starter itself has a dead spot and you need a new starter motor.
I would have a mechanic check the starter to eliminate each aspect of the mechanical reasons why it wont operate then test the electrical aspect. I would clean the chip on the key with rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts and check resistance to be sure your getting a good value. I would even call a dealer with your vin and have then make you a new key if the key is old and worn out.
The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.
Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya
