I have a car with a 550HF in it the alarm just took a dump. Can I just swap out the brain with a new 560vx?

the harness might not be the same. Check if the pinout is the same. If not just cut the old wirse and connect to the new ones.

no dont cut the old ones replace them with the wires from the new one.  put all new connectors on.   swap out wire by wire  shouldnt take long if they are all tagged already...

if they are both made by DEI (viper, clifford, valet, avital, etc) then the main harness should be the same, the antenna might not, and almost all the other plugs are. Read the quick refence guide on the 560vx to see if they have made a lot of changes. I know their is about the same from 2001-2008, but that 550HF says it is from 1997, so no promises.
The best security is to not have anything to steal, but then again your car would be pretty boring.
