laid bike down, second time in 24 years

...I laid my bike down. I was on the way to the coast, and I was about a mile or a mile and a half to Santa Margarita, swerved to avoid a rabbit, over-corrected, ended up head-on to a Buick with a 97 year old woman driving... Didn't know whether to crap or go blind... I decided to crap. Put it down in a ditch. Broke a coolant line, and with all the Suzuki dealers closed in SLO on Sunday and Monday, I had to call for a ride back to Bako... Nothing more than the pride, really hurt... A couple of bruises, and a scratch or two on the bike... I'm alive, tho.It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Hell yea smart move on dumping the bike, a coolant line and some pride over all not a bad day. And you walked away, glad to here  your not all broken up them cars are nasty!

I keep hearing the "shoulda hit the rabbit" story... Except I was in the middle of a LONG blind right sweep. I think hitting it, I might have fared far worse. My reception manager at work (73 years old, I might mention - REALLY funny to hear her say this!) said "Shoulda center-punched him!" LOL Thanks for the support, all! Yeah. It's a thing, and things can be repaired. Just really spooked me when I saw that Buick grille comin' at me! LOL @ center punch him Yeah, bikes can get you into some stuff sometimes. Almost all my family and I ride, and I have seen the worst. I actually have a 2nd cousin in the hospital still from a motorcycle accident. Don't know how or why it happened yet, but he was found 85 feet from the bike.He suffered a shattered vertebrae and hip, few broken ribs and a collapsed lung, on top of a list of other injuries. So you should feel really lucky when something like your bunny incident happens that you live to tell about it. Not to end my post on a said tip, what kind of Suzuki do you ride,and what kinda damage you got on the bike? Reason I ask is that I can get alot of Suzuki parts pretty much at cost.rtfm

Well, first, I'm sorry to hear about your cousin... That totally sucks. My dad has been in a few, but they were his own fault - the drunk bastid. Very little sympathy there. I'm glad he never took anybody ELSE with him. I was thankful that I had slowed down a bit by the time this happened. (By that section of the road, I always slow down whatever I'm driving - the traffic gets heavier, and the road is a bit less maintained - tcss probably knows what I'm saying!) For the previous 80 miles or so, I had been running about 75-80... It was a "spirited" ride, to say the least. My rear tire looks like a racebike's tire... the followong edges of all the rain channels are... well.... shall we say... quite "feathered". I'll have to put a few pics up! I love that bike! Another buddy of mine finally heard about it (he's a rider, too) and he said "So, it finally got ya, huh?" It's a little joke we have had between the two of us for years, (and until he mentioned it, I had kinda forgotten it...) referring to the accident that'll get you. We have both always agreed that it's not a question of "if", but it's a matter of "when" when you ride a motorcycle. (And sometimes, the way I ride, I am pretty amazed it took this long to catch up with me.) I know, some of you may think I'm a bit irresponsible, but I know my limitations, and I accept the risks. I also do NOT misbehave when others are around, and I have never touched a DROP of alcohol and ridden. Anyway, it's an '07 Bandit. Right turnsignal, radiator, right radiator end cap, lower radiator hoses, (all three) the lower radiator hose retaining clip, all the clamps, seat (rear cushion), muffler (from the catalytic back), and depending on whether insurance pays for it or not, the fairing took a beatin' too. The adjuster SAYS they'll make it look as good as new, so I expect they'll pay for it, as well. The local dealer scratched the engine cover paint on the first 600 mile oil change (the DEALER!) so I'm'a do all the labor myself, (I just don't trust them, now...) and I have been TOLD that the insurance company SHOULD reimburse me for that as well... Means I can get my Dale Walker Hole Shot Street Core, to complete the stage one setup! LOLIt all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You have no idea of the size of the rabbits down there....some that escaped from the test facility are just huge.Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
