So the keyless entry for my mother's 01 Camry quit working for the driver's door. I have no idea where to begin troubleshooting this kind of problem, I'm an audio guy. Any help from the Pros?

Does the drivers door lock and unlock with the switch on the door?

That bodystyle Camry was known for actuator failure in the drivers door. I can't tell you how many trips to the dealer i had to make when they called me to say my install had an issue just to find a bad Toyota part. My bet is the door lock actuator is bad and will need replacing....

How much will one of those cost? How hard is it to put in, do you think I would be able to do it myself?

if the door locks and unlocks with the switch on the door then the actuator should be ok....

do you mean to say when you use the factory keyless that it unlocks the pass door but not the drivers door?  but when you use the switch on the door both lock and unlock fine?

If it will unlock using the button you know the actuator is good. I would use a DVM and test power at the actuator(or at least the door harness) to confirm. I believe they are blue/black or blue for unlock and blue/red for lock. They should rest at gound and go to 12V when you use the remote. The door pin switch needs to be pressed to test.

Ok, after checking the car out for myself, it turns out that the door does not lock/unlock with the switch on the door. It will still lock/unlock with the manual button though... I guess this means it is the actuator?
