anyway, what is the normal resistance from the core to shield on a standard car antenna?

RESISTANCE should be infinite. You should read an open circuit on a standard VOM. Anything significantly less, and you have a shorted antenna cable.
IMPEDANCE should be 75 ohms. This you will not be able to measure without an impedance meter.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
