they might make speaker adapters to fit 6.5 in a 4x6 opening or you have to build a bracket...

There is no dumb question badswim7. It’s all about learning something new. Someone may have the same questions, but is afraid to ask him or herself. You’ll be surprise how much knowledge you can gain in this forum. As to your questions, yes you can. You have to do a bit of cutting to widen up the hole to fit in the 6 ˝” in speaker. Then you would have to put in speaker baffles, bracket plate and drill new holes to secure the 6 ˝” speakers.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.Car Speakers -- posted image.

Really don't feel bad about a "dumb question". By asking questions that have embarassed me I have gone from stuffing house speakers in a trunk of a bucket to a really advanced knowlege of audio systems, and I am still asking "dumb questions"

I just got some Metra adapter plates(part#82-3300)that adapt to 5.25 speakers. You could probably modify them to accomodate 6.5`s.
