Which amp(s) would work best on a pair of Alpine SWR-1042D subs at a 2 ohm load?

They are going into a 07 Cobalt which means limited space. Recommendations on an enclosure?

Type R's sound like dog crap in sealed boxes. If you have room for a 3 cu ft net ported enclosure than they will sound very good.

You either need a single amp that can do 1000 watts rms at 1 or 4 ohm , or 2 500 watts rms amps that can do it at 2 ohms each.
I like to stick with one amp, if you want to stick with Alpine and can afford it, look at the PDX-1.1000
BUT, if you can return the subs and get 2 SWR-1022D's, than look at a MRP-M1000.

I would venture to say that you'd need a vented box with 2 cu ft net airspace and tuned to anywhere between 35 Hz and 30 Hz.  I'd stay away from anything higher than 35 Hz (too much loss of SQ) unless you're striving for only loudness.

But some of the others here might have a different perspective on this than I do.  My thoughts here are based on a software-generated result of the SWR-1041D...I don't know how much of a difference there is in the models.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I'd like to hear recommendations for a subwoofer setup.
I have a 07 Chevy Cobalt with a I have a Pioneer DEH-P600UB head unit (Cobalt’s have limited trunk space and I'm unsure of exact dimensions but we can use the entire trunk space).
I listen to rap and techno music.
I want a crisp big bass sound and i don't care what it sounds like outside my car. The system is for my enjoyment, not flashing it off to my neighbors.
I'm looking to spend $2000-2500.
Need any other qualifiers to make a recommendation?

I completely disagree that Type-R's sound like dog crap in sealed boxes.
I ran two 12" Type-R's in a "temporary" setup (working at best buy, got them cheap with the discount) each in a 1.2 cu ft fiberglass sealed enclosure, dynamated sedan with a clean 600w at 4 ohms to each woofer and they sounded pretty clean. Not amazing but pretty much on par, if not slightly better SQ, with most mainstream $200 subwoofers.

On subs/amp/box alone? That seems really disproportional considering the price of your head unit and the alpine type-r's you are mentioning.
I'm really confused.

Thats a decent head unit. What would i gain by getting a more expensive one? Nothing from what i can tell.
My post with a $2000 price range was originally a separate topic because i wanted to avoid confusion with the Type Rs being part of this budget, but one of the moderators moved it into this topic.
The $2000 price range is not with consideration to the type Rs and was meant to be a seperate discussion.
