http://www.directedxtreme.com/amplifiers/xa8001.asp

Has anyone had experience with this manufacturer? My work recently started carrying Directed Xtreme amps. The largest amp we carried prior to this was JensenJPA285 (250watts RMS *CEA* bridged 4ohms -30amp fuse). Since this XA8001 is rated for 302watts RMS *CEA* at 4ohms (2ohm stable - 420watts @ 2ohms -60amps of fusing), I figured 'WTH' and got it.

It is a bit louder than the 250watt amp I had prior, so it's worth it to me. Also, i'm only loading it @ 4ohms instead of 2, so I have a little better damping.

The only thing is, it's not very efficient. Even @ 4ohms it gets pretty hot! I'm going to install a PC fan in the near future.

Comments?

Is it because they are so inefficient (it gets hot!)?

I plan on adding a fan...(?)

Oh, well. I guess i'll make the fan removable w/out making any 'holes'. -I can switch it out through my work if need be.

Thanks for the heads-up! I did wonder why it gets hella-hot only loaded @ 4ohms -2ohm stable.

per se
But, yeah. Garbage. Louder? What about the distortion figures? I have often noticed that systems with more distortion will often sound louder, with the same amount of power.
I'd get rid of it, personally.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Don't do that on the floor, mane! El Oh EL

Well, i'm glad I asked as i've heard before that Directed amps are crap. I guess i'm going to see if the fan helps... I'll keep the other amp on standby.
