I just purchased an '05 Ford F-150 Crew Cab with a Python 1400xp installed in it. The dealer I purchased the vehicle from told me he had used the remote to start the vehicle. He does not remember how he did it and I can not get anything to work. Batteries were changed in the remote twice. In another forum I read programming instructions and tried to program the remote using the valet button. I did get the red LED to flash and thought the remote was programmed, but still no luck. I am afraid I may have made things worse. I found three fuses and all are good. I can not find and on/off switch. I have found the plunger under the hood and it seems to be okay. When I press the buttons on the remote the green LED flashes. I downloaded and read the operator's guide and used the remote as recommended... no luck.

Am I fighting a lost cause or does anybody have any ideas?

■ The remote start will not activate.

1. Check harnesses and connections. Make sure the harnesses are fully plugged into the remote start module.

Make sure there are good connections to the vehicle wiring.

2. Check voltage and fuses. Use a meter and check for voltage between the red wire in the 5 pin ribbon harness

and the black ground wire. If you have less than battery voltage, check both 30A fuses on the relay satellite. Also make sure that the ground wire is going to a chassis ground and not to something under the dash.

3. Check diagnostics. The diagnostics will tell you which shutdown is active or not connected.

Try to run the shut down diagnostics.

To enter diagnostic mode:

1. Turn the ignition off.

2. Press and HOLD the Valet/Program switch.

3. Turn the ignition on and then off.

4. Release the Valet/Program switch.

5. Press and release the Valet/Program switch.

The LED will now report the last system shutdown by flashing for one minute in the following grouped patterns:

LED FLASHES SHUTDOWN MODE

One System timed out

Two Over-rev shutdown

Three Low or no RPM

Four Transmitter Shutdown (or optional push-button)

Six (+/-) Shutdown

Seven (-) Neutral safety shutdown

Eight Wait-to-start timed out

The LED will stop flashing when the ignition is turned on.

The wire I'm test'n isn't doin' what it's supposed to be doin'... I am so glad I printed that tech sheet, with the wrong info.

Do it right the first time... or I might have to fix it for ya

I have tried pushing the star button twice on several occasions with no luck.

I am on the road with the vehicle now and will try to run diagnostics when I get home. I will let you know what I find out.

also check to make sure antenna is plug in on both side. if keyless works then antenna is fine.

Keyless entry does not work either. I just got home. I will give it another go this evening.

check antenna check power connection and fuse check ground.

Okay here is where I am at. I tore things apart and all of the connections appear to be good. Antenna is plugged in on both ends. The ground looked a little shakey, but I relocated it and no change. Fuses all look good. Looks like one of the kids "borrowed" my meter so I have not checked voltages yet. I entered diagnostics and it flashed steady (25 times) for one minute and stopped.

I threw everything back together because the wife wants to go shopping (argh). Looks like I am shut down until tomorrow.

try this, there should be a WHITE/ blue wire off the remote start, tap it to ground twice, this should cause the remote start to trigger and start up the vehicle, if this does work then i would say that there is most likely a problem with the remote not being able to communicate with the RS, if not then it is with the antenna/ antenna wiring. if that does not work and you are getting voltage to the larger gauge red wires off the satellite and the smaller gauge red wire off the brain, and you have a good ground then I would say your RS brain is bad.
