ok i have a dilema kinda i bought a big system and now i dont have any money for a HO alternator. so what i wanna do is sell my setup and buy a lower power setup but one that may be louder.

CURRENTLY i have 4 cvr 12s and a hifonics 2008D amp pushing 1300 RMS to the subs wired down to 2 ohm. i wanna sell it and buy about a true 1000 watt amp (probly kicker 1000.1) because with stock alternator and red top under the hood that should be ok.

solution maybe? the guy at my local shop builds insanly awesome boxes! i love his boxes, there so loud and efficient. sooo i was thinkin gettin like 3 10s, 2 12s, or just one 15 and i was wondering what sub would be the best spl wise? also im kinda on a budget.

i may get about 650 for everything so thats my budget. i can get the amp for 250 so that leaves roughly 400 for subs and box. his box cost around average 175-240. so 160- 225 on subs. i shop off ebay so if you have a sub in mind look on ebay please as thats where i shop no matter what everyone says!

please help me out with this as i want a good system but dont wanna pay for a HO alternator as of right now.

(hopefully the pics show up)

first off a new enclosure could be a lot better than the one you have now...why is it along the right side and not in the cargo area?? lol

As someone who used to have an explorer I can tell you that your alt. will not take that load either, you have either a 95 or 105 amp alt if I remember correctly and that amp at 75% efficiency needs about 85 amps which leaves 10 to 20 for all other loads in the vehicle. You will have severe dimming issues and will probably burn out that alternator after a few weeks of running it that way (I had the kx 1200.1 on my stock alt and it went after a month and that was with the big 3)So I would still recommend looking at an alt or an amp that puts out closer to 500 or 600 watts.

if i upgrade to the 130 alternator then that should be fine right? 85 for the kicker leaving 45 for everything else as i dont have ac so everything on should be ok. thanks for that input, that helps alot. but now back to the original q. what kind of subs should i run then? givin now that i will probly run between 500-700 watts.

130 amp will still not be enough...You should get the biggest you can afford...at idle even with a 130 amp alt the voltage will still dip into the battery levels

Azn is correct most of the time manufacturers only put about 10-15% extra into the alternators so that means your car probably needs about 75-80 amps. You really need to look in the 200 amp range for a true 1000 watt amp. If you do not want to upgrade then you should stick with a lower power amp. as for the subs I would probably stick with 2 12's they are easier to wire than 3 10's and move more air than 1 15".

ok i like the 2 12s idea. but on a true 500 rms amp what subs are like 250 rms each? also i was looking at the p3 RF i think and the 15 is 500 rms which would suite it pretty well. whatever i get i wanna hard very hard clean bass and i know you can do that with lowpower setups im just tryin to figureout wat setup. so is that RF a good choice then put like a infinity amp on them? infinitys are one of my toip choices in clean amps

sorry for the double post but i have another question. i was looking at RE audio subs and there is a 10 i like but its  1000 RMS. if i put about 500 RMS to it will it be as loud as if i get a sub that is 500 RMS and push it fully? i hear its louder if you get a sub and push its full rms rather than get a big sub and small amp. just wondfering becuase i really wantthat re audio sub.
