i know youve probably heard this question numerous times before but when i have my subs and amp hooked up my car battery goes dead. its happened about 3 times already. does anyone know any solutions? thanks

Put a battery in the trunk for the amp and install a battery splitter up front. The splitter will allow alternator to charge both batteries when the engine is running but only the rear battery will discharge while playing the sound system with engine turned off.

well there has to be a better solution then that. i use to own a 96 sentra and my alt went out before the battery. the amp (and im embarrassed to say it) only pushes out 400 watts. pathetic i kno.

Better solution? Pull out fuses from amp - problem solved.

Describe the problem with a little more detail. Simply installing an amp in a car shouldn't kill the battery, unless you are listening to it with the car off.

I'm assuming you mean that overnight the battery is dying, with the amp off? Are you sure the amp is actually shutting off? You may have the remote wire hooked up wrong.

ya its an overnight problem. i didnt touch my car to the whole day and when i tried to turn my car on, i had to use jumpers. what do you mean remote wire hooked up wrong? i thought there was only one way of doing it. thanks for your help guys

Wow, brutal suggestions! Sounds like your battery is in need of replacement, even if the amp remained on, the only way it would discharge your battery over night is if it was amplifying a signal, which im sure you would hear. The idle current draw of a modern amp isn't enough to drain a battery in 1 night. Get your battery checked out, im willing to bet you need a replacement. Spend the most you can on the best/biggest battery you can afford, I would suggest a deep cycle , they last much longer than regular acid batteries.

Sounds like remote keeps amp on. Be sure it's connected to remote out from head unit not to a B+.

The first thing I would do is remove the fuse from the amp for a week. If you have no dead batteries reinstall the fuse. If you start seeing dead batteries again then you know there is something going on with the amp.

I've seen an amp that even though it was off drained enough current to kill the battery in a short time (I think it was 2-3 days of not driving). There was definately something wrong with the power supply in the amp - the guy replaced the amp and the problem went away.
