I was talkin to the guy online at cardomain and he told me that he put an 8 awg power wire and ground on his Alpine CDA-9807 . He said he complety took out the factory wires on the harness and resoldered those in it. When the bass I on he gets 13.8 and not 14.4. I'm not sure if he wired it straight to the battery or not but what you all think of is could it work safely or its overkill

Are your speakers connected to the deck?

No they are wired to an external amp. Would it make a difference if they wasn't wired to an amp

The only reason Alpine reccomends you run a wire directly to the battery is for extra current capacity to run the output chip in the radio.  With no speakers connected to the deck, it may pull 3 amps of current if it has trouble ejecting a disk.

Upgrading the power and ground when you have no speakers connected to it is a total waste of time.  If you did have speakers connected to the deck an 8 Ga. wire is way overkill.

He had the power ground upgraded to 8awg and the speaker wire he didn't specify on his car domain site. So if he did have the speakers hooked up to the radios harness it would be worth it. Also I didn't understand what you ment by the thee amps theory and the cd can't come out the radio. I have 3 amp wired to my jvc and the cd function works fine

With no speakers connected to your alpine deck, the most current it will pull through the constant and ground is 3 amps of current.  Nothing to do with number of amplifiers.  The only way it will pull 3 amps of current is if the eject motor was put in a bind.  With only 3 amps of current draw, your factory wires are way big enough to handle that.

Ok you put that into perspective that's when he told me he put 8 guage wire it I was wondering why and if the radio could take more why didn't alpine put 8 on it. Which reminds me of the idea I had of running 0 guage to a a guage amp and putting a reducer on it. It looks nice but does the same as the 4 guage. ***
