There are three different alternators that came form the factory (1) Bosh 136 Amps (2) Nippondenso 136 amps (3) Nippondenso 117 amps. I would suggest that you call around and find the largest alternator you can. But at the very least don’t get anything under 200 amps. Might want to call this guy C.S.A nathanpeddicord@yahoo.com or call at 1-334-712-9955 or 1-334-791-6272I have never dealt with him but I hear that he makes some of the largest amp alternators out there and has good pricing. He builds a lot of alternators for comp.

Most high output alternators, like everyone is suggesting, put out full power at around 1200-1500 rpm, problem is, most cars idle below 1000 rpm.  I have learned this since purchasing a $500 alternator for my 01 durango.  My volt meter (instrument cluster) drops when I really beat on my system, no shutting off......yet.  The voltage gauge goes back up once the car is moving.

Another thing is that most new cars have external voltage regulators in the body computer, which can also affect performance.

-btw,

My alternator was a direct bolt on replacement for the nippondenso 136A, it is a Ohio Generator 200A alternator.  It is going to get extremely difficult to get find a bigger one.  And if you do, you will prob have do some extensive mods to get it in.
