Just so we won't have to do so much footwork to help you, it would be much easier to help you if we knew the impedance of the woofers.  Single or dual voice coil?  What is the minimum load the amp can be driven into?  What are the output power of the amp?   XXX at 4 ohms.   XXX at 2 ohms.   XXX at 1 ohms.    What is the power handling of the woofers?

o my bad, wasnt thinking brain was a little off yesterday.
yes my Two JL 12w3v3's are both 4 ohm speakers they will be wired in parallel so the amplifier will see a 2 ohm load. The thermal power handling of these speakers is 500 rms i think. it kind of confusing. when i bought the speakers the manula said 300 rms was optimum, and 600 rms was where the warranty would be voided if driven past. but they now say that 500 is the thermal power handling.

i guess its not working today either lol.
yea the orion amplifier specs are 450 @ 4ohm 800 @ 2ohm and 1200 at 1 ohm.
its mono block amplifier. i assume orion is a trustworthy brand and it will put out the numbers they say in its specs?
o and sorry about the double post, i can't edit things yet :(

JL subs are not rated as RMS and Peak.  They are rated by RMS Thermal Power handling, which you can just use that as an RMS measurement.  Run your 12W3v3-4 at 300-400 watts RMS each.

The Orion amp opinion is a loaded question.  Guys like me, who have been in the racket for a while, have seen the glory days of Orion, with the Red HCCA amplifiers.  The amps today are not much to swing a stick at, but decent amps non-the-less.  If you're not experienced with the Orion amp designs of the mid-90's then buy away.

yes i know that they do not rate them by peak its just that they one day overnight changed the information in there manual, but as far as i know the subs were not changed at all. They say driving the subs with 300 rms was optimum and they could handle 600 rms before they may fail and driving them above 600 voided the warranty, but now they say just 500 rms is the thermal power handing. so i am just going to take it safe and run them at 300-400 like you said.
so you dont have any experience with the new orion hcca lineup?

Ever since Orion went with the pop top x-over on the HCCA
the line went seriously down hill. This is about the time the hardwired leads went to connectors. If memory serves original Orion, then ADST and then Directed?
I picked up a very used 2350GX and was still impressed. In their day they did kick some ***. My opinion of the "5 pin Din" setup of the day still goes back and forth. A blessing and a curse.
PPI, Orion, Hifonics, ADS, Soundstream. These products are no where near they once were.
