what do you charge for installation??

If you own a shop what do you guys usally charge for installation?? Head Unit $ Amp/Subs $ Door Speakers $ Back Speakers $ EQ $ Crossover $ Alarm $ ANything else?? $$

WE don't do too many amps, but the rest I can answer: Head unit $45.00 + installation equip Door speakers $70.00 Back speakers -either $45.00 or $70.00 depending on whether the rear deck has to be taken apart (such as the Lumina) Alarm $150.00 All prices are strictly for the installation and do not include parts.

So what would be the prices in U.S funds? Also what do you charge for custom work? thanks

The conversion will be $ .65 x what I have on the prices above. Just remember that you charge according to your area norm. If you live in an area with high crime & lots of competition you can probably get away with charging higher prices. Custom work I charge $ 35.00 per hour but is based on the whole job. I normally don't charge the actual hours worked rather a base price and then hope that the person gives us good feedback and referral customers .Jeff

Wow Jeff! You must be awfully busy to be able to go so low. $35.00 canadian per hour comes out to 22 bucks an hour in US dollars. I have to charge a $45.00 minimum just to stay alive.

Actually, the ratecharged  for installation around my area is average. We have a very low unemployment rate in this area and also low inflation rate compared to the rest of Canada ( less than 2 % for both ). The rate I charge is actually lower than the competitors, but only by $ 5.00 /hour. If I could charge $ 65.00 per hour in my area and still have customers come to me.... I'd be rich in no time . As I said before, it will depend on the area that you live in and also the clients that you bring in. I'm sure installers in Cali / Florida are making even more than you are.Jeff

what will it take to open a install shop on your own. how do you get produt and how much cash is needed just a dream

Cash is not usually the case when it comes to starting your own business.....it's time. You can start off with a part time business and work your way up to a full time business and then a shop. This allows you to keep your day job and allow you to have financial fexibility with steady income as you build your business on the side. This allow you to build a solid foundation of clients and suppliers prior to opening up your own shop. Otherwise an initial investment of $ 150,000 - $ 250,000 should get a good start for a small shop with enough inventory to start you off.Jeff
