I hooked up a relay so that when I open the doors on my truck my neon under the truck come one. Everything was working just fine till the other day when the relay started to make a wired noise. It is almost like it is vibrating with it clicks on or off.  Does this mean the relay is going bad or is there something else wrong? I have the relay setup to send a postitive feen to my leds as my door triggers are negative.

The only thing that will make the relay chatter is lack of good ground or power to terminals 85 and 86.

Well I noticed last night that the chatter had stopped. I was thinking that maybe the relay gave out and stopped working but my lights still come on.. I have power coming from the constant 12v + under that dash.

Should I worry about this ?

I would guess that there was some dirt or debris in your door pin.  If it happens again try opening a 2nd door and see if the relay quits chattering.

Is the relay still clicking when you open the door, or do the lights still come on WITHOUT the relay clicking?

I did not notice if it was or not. I will check today.  I think if it is not clicking that the lights would not come on correct.

If the relay is not working and your neon is still coming on, then you most likely have the relay connected wrong.

Follow this diagram:

Where is the pinswitch?     Do we even know what kind of vehicle we are dealing with?

Sorry about that .. This is on a 2005 nissan pathfinder. I am connecting to the dome light wire. It is positive when the door is closed and negative when it is open.

I had to setup a reverse polarity relay to get positive to the neons when the orr is open.

The way I have it setup is :

85 negative trigger , 87 positive output , 86 and 30 constant 12v.
