Im tryin to install a head unit in to my Explorer, i was told it has a factory amp in it, so in order to get it to work, i had to buy a special harness.... well its got a deck speaker level input, and when i put power thru it, it get EXTREMLY hot very fast! i checkin my wiring, and im 95% sure that its right, so what could be my problem??

Check all your ground, power, and speaker connections. Also, make sure that the power lead is sufficient. I know on a lot of the ford vehicles that have separate factory amplifiers, the fuse rating for the power lead that goes to the head unit is pretty low (sometimes as little as 5amps).

Technically such a fuse would blow before the unit overheats, but if the power lead is like a 20-gauge wire then it's starving the head unit of sufficient current and sometimes makes it overheat. In that case I'd recommend going directly to the battery with a 12 or 14 gauge fused wire.
