I just found this site and am very impressed by all the knowledgeable posts on here.
My question concerns the programming needed to replace the original 477T remote with a replacement. The replacement I got looks the same but it says Hornet on it instead of Valet, will this make a difference?
I don't have a bitwriter, so how do I go about programming the expanded configuration?
Would purchasing a bitwriter make the programming easier and give me more options?
Also, I saw a post about adding defroster to the 554R could I use this for the heated seat switch on my 2000 GMC Yukon?
Thanks,
Chad

No, it doesn't matter if it says Hornet or Valet on it... It just need a 477* series remote.
You do not need a bitwriter unless the installer locked it. An install manual will be very beneficial.
There is a auxiliary output that could be used for activating an accessory, like defrost or heated seats.

Where can I find an install manual for the 554R?
I'm still a little unclear on programming the replacement transmitter. The instructions on the back of the package talk about channel 8 for auto-learn standard configuration and channel 9 for auto-learn single-button configuration. Then at the bottom of the instructions it talks about using the expanded configuration which has the AUX button for channel 2 and the * button for panic mode.
I want to have channel 2 and * button functional for the replacement transmitter because they are for the original, so do I need to program these using the auto-learn single-button configuration?
Thanks.
