No actually that time I put in a Sanyo cd/cassette combo. I have also installed a kenwood into one of these. In both cases I did not loose the door chime.

If you put in an aftermarket deck using a standard GM harness (not the relocation harness), and you do not lose your door chimes, then your vehicle simply does not have the class 2 wiring.  Just for clarification, there IS a difference between radios that work on the class 2 wiring systems, and radios that need to have the VIN# programmed into them.  To my knowledge that whole VIN# programming thing applies to any of the GM radios that have the TheftLoc system in it, and not necessarily just for ones that use class 2 wiring.  Sorry I don't think I explained that too well just now2002 Chevy Malibu Head Unit - Page 2 -- posted image.
