I think my car is 2.5" depth, and the Focals I want are 2.8.
I think that forces me into the Slim version of these.
Any take on these if they're as good as the regular size?
Any compromise in SQ??

I'd think not, as NO Focal offers anything in the way of decent SQ, anyway. Bright and thin, I've never thought they were even remotely worth the money asked for them, just because they say "Focal" on the back.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Focal IMO has always been overrated and overpriced. You can buy spacers or make some easily. Look at the Diamond Audio stuff.

I've had Focal's homeline for years, Cobalts, Chorus, DaLine and now the unreal Electra BE's so that's why I'm going to hear some today. Hopefully the 'wall' will give me some kind of idea of what they may sound like but not precisely.
My experience with the JM Lab's at home is that yes, they are incredibly bright and very revealing and in the hands of the wrong receiver or amp, they will come across as tinny and too high. But with the addition of a 9x12 wool rug on the hardwoods, and pairing up with a B&K 200.7, they became buttery and killer with an unbelievable soundstage and imaging.
But, this is a small SUV and not my LR so I know it's Apples and Oranges.
Reading lot's of reviews, people either seem to love Focal's or hate them. The most detailed review of this line mentioned that it all comes down to the tuning, crossovers, gains and even the Alpine Imprint, can all make the difference.
Diamond is the other line I'd like to give a try if I can find a dealer around here.
As for spacers, it's been recommended, but I don't know how to measure the door panel to see if there's enough space, hell I don't even know how to take off the door panels!

I've said this before in other threads, but I love my Diamond Audio HEX 6.5 components with the silk tweeter.  I'm no pro, but to me they sound great on an Eclipse amp pushing about 100 to 150 watts rms each woofer and tweet.

From your post you seem far more intelligent than I, but I'm just giving my opinion.

I'd love to hear some Diamond's, but from my experience today, I don't think there's anyway to test speakers in a wall/box. The Focal
display sounded pretty empty!
