I installed a Viper 5701 remote start in my 2007 Tundra. Everything works fine except when I remote start the truck then remote stop it without getting in (opening the door), if it is dark outside the headlights do not turn off. I have automatic headlights on the truck and this only happens when the headlight switch is on Auto, any other position and the headlights turn off when I remote stop. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Seems like I will need to do something like wire the Factory Disarm Output to one of the door triggers and program it to Remote Start. This would fool the truck into thinking that the door has been opened, but if I do this then it would set off the alarm, so I find myself in a catch-22.

if you dont mind the lights not coming on at all when you remote start you could connect a relay to the ground when running wire of the alarm to interrupt the headlight wire. and if you want to go even farther you could add another relay hooked to an aux channel that could bypass the first relay so you could choose if you want the lights on or off when you remote start the truck

use the ground when running wire and a relay. wire the relay to interrupt the main power feed into the back of the headlight switch while running.

Thanks for the replies. I have a couple of questions:

  • Is the 'ground when running' the same as the 'Remote Start Output Status'?  I assume it is...
  • If I use a relay connected to the 'ground when running' output to interrupt the headlights power at the switch, will I be able to use my headlights if I remote start and attempt to drive the vehicle?

Thanks for the help...

i always tell customers to make sure not to leave the stick on auto....   although you could also just pulse the drivers door pin to shut down the autolamps....

ground when running=status output

yes you will. once the remote start is deactivated by stepping on the brake though of course.

Theres a dark green at the light switch, if you open this wire with a relay and your ground while running the lights will never come on.

I installed the relay but made a minor change. I interrupted the Auto input from the headlight switch instead of the power feed, now the vehicle thinks the headlight switch is off when remote starting.

Thanks for the help!
