i have a 1985 regal
got mb quart qsd 216 in some q form kick panels powered by a jl 300/2
2 jl 12/3 in separate sealed boxes powered by a jl 500/1
no rear speakers
sounds nothing like i thought it would bass is way to low and components are not that impressive. what do you think i can do to improve my setup.
thinking of going to a shop and getting a ported box done for the bass. and adding some rear fill
also is it normal for my crossovers to light up so bright i'm thinking something is definitely wrong. when the volume is up the light up on certain notes.
thanks
jay

Definitely get the front speakers moved. You are losting all the response from them in those Q-form panels as the energy is bleeding out as they are not sealed off from the front of the speaker. This is called cancellation. While people say that kick panels are the ideal spot, I prefer them in a door where the response is going to come alive. The crossovers are designed to light up, there is a lightbulb in them to help protect the speakers from damaging output. Turn the gain down on the amp if they are staying lit. Add rear fill with a amp on them as well. Protect the rear speakers with some kind of baffle to keep the sub from interfering with them.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

i noticed 1 lights up more than the other. not all the time just on the high notes i guess. pretty much every couple seconds. as for the kicks i was thinking of getting a custom set made cause they are pretty flimsy. but i thought it would be much louder being that they are getting 150watts each.

try switching the positive and negative wires on just one of you subs, they might be wired backwards causing some cancellation. might be why your bass response isnt good. but if it gets worse then switch them back
