mounting el wire, how?

I just purchased some EL wire to do some accenting inside my car. What i want to do is line some of the edges of my door panels and stuff, but how would i go about doing such a thing? Ive seen it done, i just dont know how they mounted the stuff.

Do you have seems or cracks you can fill it? Clear caulk/silicone would work great. If you are really careful you could use super glue, but it will leave a white chalky residue.

from what ive read the EL wire doesnt last as long as most other lights, and may need to be replaced every so often. Is there some method of securing it that wont gum up or mess up my car and possibly look so amateur'ish.... silicone might leave a bit of a mess.

A tiny bead of silicone should look decent and clean up easily. I can't think of anything better, double sided tape would be an absolute pain to use, epoxies would be hard to remove/clean up, Clear tape would look trashy quickly. Short of bolting plexi over it, caulk would be the cleanest solution.

you make a good point. i would just need a really tiny dispenser. the only real issue i have there is the fabric on my door panels. I think a couple of places where i want to put the el wire is between plastic and fabric.

well i got it today. I think i might be able to use silicone, but id need a really fine dispenser. how do you keep it in place while it sets? the wire seems like it would pull away. Can i warm it with a heat gun or hair dryer to make it more flexible?

Mine was pretty flexy, but a little heat should make it more pliable. To keep it in place, use a little masking tape. Masking tape is designed to come off clean, but you can use any tape. I would apply the caulk to the surface your adhering too, leaving gaps as wide as the tape. Then tape as you go and wipe it with a damp rag to remove excess.
