Are there any alternative to hooking up a line output converter other than the rear speakers? can it be hooked on the front door speakers?

you can connect them to either pair of speakers.  Of course only if the front door speakers are full range speakers.  It is best to connect them behind the radio, if the speaker outputs of the system are behind the radio.  If we knew what kind of vehicle you had, we could even tell you what color the wires would be.

You will probably want to connect the LOC to the rear speakers in that vehicle.  I am pretty sure that the Door Chime and the OnStar come out of the front left speaker of that vehicle.  If you connect it to the front speakers, the door chime will be extremely loud through whatever speakers the amplifier is connected to.

well if the door chime is only in the left front, what would happen if i did the right front? And i've never hooked a line output converter before, do i just splice whatever speaker's wires i use?

Stereo means 2 separate channels.  That is how you get stereo separation.  If you use only one speaker to feed both sides of your LOC, you will not get all of the available information.
