I just got a 1997 cadillac deville d'elegance with the standard cassestte radio not the bose cd system and i wanted to find out exactly how to remove the stock radio and install an aftermarket one before i even attempt it. All ive done is taken off the trim ring around the radio and kinda messed around just seeing if i could get the radio to come out but i can't even get that far. I'm guessing you have to have a certain tool to release the tabs to slide the stock HU out. If anyone has any experience of doing this can you please help me out because i really dont want to mess up something with the car which im assuming is very easy to do when messing with the electronics since thats basically all there is to the car

i think your best bet would be to buy the installation kit for your new radio most will come with instructions for removing your factory radio

You have to push those golden metal tabs in really hard, it looks like there may be a rivet holding them in but its not, i just did one this weekend and it took about 5 minutes to figure it out but yeah you just have to sqeeze those tabs inward hard and pull at the same time it might help.
